Project Name: AKEMI Retail Store Design

Nowadays, waste pollution is one of the issues that affect our natural environment as people throw away the bedding accessories such as towel, fabric components, bottle fragrance as they unsure the recycling channels. This situation led to waste issue increase dramatically and it will cause the chemical pollution to our environment.

Another issue is people lacking awareness of bedding materials that lead to health issues such as allergic, skin irritation, and respiratory problem.

To reduce these issues, the project is about design for AKEMI, a home bedding and accessories brand for a Zero-Waste Future, significantly reduce waste generation towards a more sustainable future, and enhance public awareness and knowledge about the health implications of different bedding materials to reduce health issues such as allergic and respiratory problems. In this case, reed diffuser refill station, drop-off (fabric components) customer service, bottle and fabric exchange at counter is proposed for customer. Also, the flippable display system and pull display system serve as interactive display for customer to enhance public awareness and knowledge about the bedding that using different materials to reduce health issues.

Concept is inspired from the tagline of AKEMI – “Bringing Togetherness”. It is also from the process of making mattress which is sewing, and using different materials such as hard sponge, iron wire, latex to combine together. It is reflecting the meaning of “Bringing Togetherness” such as bringing diversity and inclusivity by offering a variety of styles, patterns, bringing different people together. These being and inspiration to have the concept – Interlinkage.

Using wood texture material such as white and dark oak wood laminate to enhance the home environment feeling which reflect AKEMI. The materiality is centered around natural, sustainable and eco-friendly materials such as engineered wood and composite wood which are relatively easy to source locally and easy to install,ensuring process is efficient and aligns with sustainable practices.
